NHS Check-ups and Dental Treatments

Regular NHS check-ups are the foundation of good oral health. At your first visit, your dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and mouth, take X-rays if needed, and flag anything that needs further treatment. This forms part of the Band 1 charge explained below.

Our dentists have treated NHS patients in Milton Keynes for over 30 years, covering general conditions like tooth decay, gum disease, and dental pain, alongside routine preventive care.

NHS Dental Treatment & Eligibility

You require a check-up so we can assess your current oral health, identify any risk of future disease, and advise you on the necessary care and treatment to maintain good oral hygiene. Keeping your teeth healthy and clean is essential for long-term oral health.

Cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening are not covered by the NHS as they are not clinically necessary. Even for necessary treatments, we will offer you the most appropriate NHS treatment. If you choose an alternative treatment option, it will be charged privately.

Who is Entitled to Free NHS Dental Treatment in England?

The NHS requires patients to contribute towards the cost of their dental care. However, some individuals may qualify for free treatment under specific circumstances.

You will not have to pay for NHS dental treatment if you are:
Under 18, or under 19 and in full-time education
Pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months
✔ Receiving treatment in an NHS hospital by an NHS dentist (but may have to pay for dentures or bridges)
✔ Receiving low-income benefits, or under 20 and a dependent of someone receiving low-income benefits

Not sure if you qualify? Our reception team can check your eligibility when you book, so call 01908 282428 or book online and we’ll confirm before your appointment.

What Happens If You Need Treatment Beyond the NHS

Some treatments, like cosmetic work or same-day appliances, fall outside NHS coverage. If that’s the case, we’ll always explain your NHS options first and only offer a private alternative if you ask for one. You can compare our private fees here or ask about our membership plans if you’d prefer a fixed monthly cost instead of NHS banding.
